Portugal's best small museums

Our destination expert Annie Bennett picks her favourite smaller museums in Portugal.

Most museums in Portugal open between 10am-6pm and are closed on Mondays.

CASA DAS HIST”RIAS PAULA REGO, CASCAIS

Designed by leading architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, who this year won the Pritzker prize, this museum in the holiday town of Cascais, west of Lisbon, is dedicated to the world-renowned artist Paula Rego. Born in Lisbon, she settled in London after studying at the Slade School of Art.

The collection contains paintings, etchings and drawings spanning the last 50 years, many of which had not previously been shown in public.
