A performance/installation situated on a beach, with a sunset and a horizon line, as if it were a utopian space, an indicator of dimensions consciousness cannot possibly reach, neither in the present nor in the future. Or the “Immense Unknown”, that condemns the individual to an atomized state, reducing him to a fraction of his possibilities, subjected to the combined powers of both the economic system and global politics.
Horizon Line constitutes the next step in Ana Borralho and João Galante’s unique parcours. Over the years the two artists have developed their research into a consistent and mature body of work; always hybrid, it traverses the boundaries of visual and performing arts, questioning the active and passive behaviors of the “spectator”, focusing on the barrier/relationship between the observer and the work.
“The horizon of beauty of Ana Borralho and João Galante is one we can reach and grasp: a horizon of acceptance, of the intimate changing of ourselves in front of the other, of watching more closely before passing judgment, of taking part in the experience rather than just being a witness.” (Rui Catalão)
